The oil companies make nothing compared to what the
government makes on a gallon of gas. Gas and Diesel would be $1 something per
gallon tomorrow if the government suspended the taxes and regulatory fees. Ca.
taxes the Federal taxes. That's right taxing the taxes. There are 11 taxes on
every gallon of gas/diesel sold in California
just at the retail level and this number has been increasing every year. This
does not include the multitude of regulatory fees. For example every gas
station is required to have certified hose inspector inspect the hoses every
day (every station pays thousands of dollars a year for what). The SCAQMD
subsist entirely off of penalties and fees of the fuel industry. Have a look at
the SCAQMD building in Los Angeles
(can someone say Taj Mahal). The list goes on and on. Love O'Reilly but he
aggravates me with his position on oil. I'm tired of the just drive 10% less. I
probably drive 50% than I did 5 years ago and you still want more. Anti-nuclear,
anti-drilling, anti-oil have created this mess. My oil consumption is nothing
compared to the machinery that moves this country. O’Reilly should ask himself
why diesel is more expensive than gas. The answer is there is a higher demand
for diesel. That demand is tractor trailers, 747s and so on, it's not the
Cleaver's Buick. I park my car/bike after work on Friday and don't touch it
till Monday. No more vacations due to fuel cost. I now stay home and do yard
work. No one likes to mention, motorcycles. Been driving street bike for 40
years. Saves lots of gas and traffic congestion. Mr. O’Reilly how about our
“concerned for the planet” government letting me claim my bike on my 1040, how
about no sales tax or registration fees. If 10% of the people were on bikes
there would be no congestion on the LA freeways. Thousands if not millions of
saved hours of driving every year in addition to the substantial reduction of
oil consumption. How about that! Too scared to hop on a bike to save the country?
